Green Chutney also known as Hari Chutney, Dhaniya Chutney is the most famous and typical ‘condiment’ that you will find in Indian households. It’s often served with snacks, sandwiches and the uber famous chaats (street side foods). It is full of flavor, has a nice tang and spice to it and best of all it is healthy. While the basic concept is the same, every home has a slightly different recipe.
At the least, it is made with Cilantro or Coriander, green chillies, lime and salt, but then you can add various aromatics like garlic, ginger, superfoods like hemp and sesame seeds, peanuts, cashew, curry leaves, the list is endless.
Of course I am biased because I love all of the things my mom cooks, but her chutney recipe below is amazing (!!!). It is hands down an extended-extended family-favorite! Some folks literally ask her to make a big batch and they freeze it in cubes so that the vibrant green color is preserved.
I will be sharing many recipes coming that will tempt you to make and eat this chutney. It so easily elevates simple snacks and dishes. In the meantime, you can definitely kickback and eat it alongside my Breakfast Cabbage Sandwich and a hot cup of tea or coffee :).

Spicy Green Cilantro Chutney
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 2 Cups 1x
Description
Spicy, tangy, green condiment made with Cilantro and chillies. Perfect with a variety of snacks and
sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 4 cup Cilantro or Coriander (tightly packed)
- 3–4 Green Chilies (adjust to taste)
- 1 inch Ginger
- 3 tbsp Sesame Seeds
- 10 Curry Leaves
- ½ – ¾ cup Water
- ¼ cup Lime Juice
- 2 tsp Salt (adjust to taste)
Instructions
- Separate the leaves and tender stalks of the Cilantro and set aside. The stalk has a lot of flavor, so only remove the tough/thick ones.
- Whizz all the ingredients (except the salt and lime juice) in your blender until smooth, adding little water at a time. Consistency should be like a thick smoothie.
- Add salt and lime juice at the end, so that the bright green color preserves better.
- Refrigerate up to 2 weeks or freeze for 6 months. Enjoy with your fav snacks including crackers 🙂
